Centre Philosophy
“Tell me and I’ll forget. Teach me and I’ll remember. Involve me and I’ll learn”.
(Benjamin Franklin)
As educators at Mighty Mouse Daycare, we believe that children are capable of constructing their own learning and we are committed to ensure that all children are treated fairly with dignity and respect; and are provided with opportunities for ongoing learning and to reach their full potential.
We believe that children form an understanding of themselves and their place in the world through their interactions with others. We create meaningful and authentic relationships with children and our interactions take into consideration each child’s family, social, economic, cultural, religious, and developmental differences.
We create and maintain an environment which is family centred, child focused and fosters trust, security, and comfort. Providing choices and a safe place for all children to play and where the children and educators co-construct activities that are intentional and meaningful.
We ensure we have realistic and developmentally appropriate expectations and offer guidance to help all children develop their self-esteem, gain confidence, a sense of control and of their own abilities.
We recognize that children express themselves in many ways and that as educators it is important for a child to know that their feelings are recognized and understood. Our role is to support them to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas; and that we are always listening to, respecting, and valuing each child.
Alisha and Steve are the owners of Mighty Mouse Daycare. Alisha has a huge passion for childcare and it has been her dream to help take care of and nurture children’s development. As Vernon residents Alisha and her husband saw that there was a need for childcare spaces and when the opportunity arose to open their very own centre they jumped at the chance. Alisha and Steve could not be prouder of their centre and staff as they look forward to helping the parents and children of Vernon.
When it came time to pick a name for the center, that was easy! Alisha used to work in retail and due to her small stature, she usually required help with heavy items. There were times where Alisha’s coworkers were helping other customers, so she had to be creative in maneuvering big items for customers. Alisha’s other co-workers were shocked with how this tiny woman would carry out big ticket items. So, Alisha’s nickname soon became Mighty Mouse.
